Dual polar spaces as extremal distance-regular graphs

چکیده

A new inequality for the parameters of distance-regular graphs is proved. It implies that if there are infinitely many distance-regular graphs with fixed λ,μ, ai and ci containing an induced quadrangle then necessarily ci+1 ≥ 1+(μ−1)ci . As the dual polar graphs show, this inequality is best possible. Some related results are also discussed. © 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

On Q-polynomial regular near 2d-gons

We discuss thick regular near 2d-gons with a Q-polynomial collinearity graph. For d ≥ 4, we show that apart from Hamming near polygons and dual polar spaces there are no thick Q-polynomial regular near polygons. We also show that no regular near hexagons exist with parameters (s, t2, t) equal to (3, 1, 34), (8, 4, 740), (92, 64, 1314560), (95, 19, 1027064) or (105, 147, 2763012). Such regular n...

Two distance-regular graphs

We construct two families of distance-regular graphs, namely the subgraph of the dual polar graph of type B3(q) induced on the vertices far from a fixed point, and the subgraph of the dual polar graph of type D4(q) induced on the vertices far from a fixed edge. The latter is the extended bipartite double of the former.

Parallelogram-free distance-regular graphs having completely regular strongly regular subgraphs

Let = (X,R) be a distance-regular graph of diameter d . A parallelogram of length i is a 4-tuple xyzw consisting of vertices of such that ∂(x, y)= ∂(z,w)= 1, ∂(x, z)= i, and ∂(x,w)= ∂(y,w)= ∂(y, z)= i− 1. A subset Y of X is said to be a completely regular code if the numbers πi,j = | j (x)∩ Y | (i, j ∈ {0,1, . . . , d}) depend only on i = ∂(x,Y ) and j . A subset Y of X is said to be strongly c...

Antidesigns and regularity of partial spreads in dual polar graphs

We give several examples of designs and antidesigns in classical finite polar spaces. These types of subsets of maximal totally isotropic subspaces generalize the dualization of the concepts of m-ovoids and tight sets of points in generalized quadrangles. We also consider regularity of partial spreads and spreads. The techniques that we apply were developed by Delsarte. In some polar spaces of ...

The Extremal Graphs for (Sum-) Balaban Index of Spiro and Polyphenyl Hexagonal Chains

As highly discriminant distance-based topological indices, the Balaban index and the sum-Balaban index of a graph $G$ are defined as $J(G)=frac{m}{mu+1}sumlimits_{uvin E} frac{1}{sqrt{D_{G}(u)D_{G}(v)}}$ and $SJ(G)=frac{m}{mu+1}sumlimits_{uvin E} frac{1}{sqrt{D_{G}(u)+D_{G}(v)}}$, respectively, where $D_{G}(u)=sumlimits_{vin V}d(u,v)$ is the distance sum of vertex $u$ in $G$, $m$ is the n...
